Fluid Studio Utah Creative Director Job Description

The Creative Director (CD) is responsible for the overall supervision of the agency’s creative product (both design and copy). The CD interfaces with the client, the Account Executive (AE), and other creatives at Fluid. The CD is responsible for helping formulate and implement the strategic marketing plan that has been developed and interpreting it into “the big idea.”

The CD helps assign all creative projects among the agency staff and bringing in outside vendors as required. The CD approves all creative work before it is presented to the client. Most of all, the CD has a vision about the importance of the creative product to the future success of the agency.

Duties:

Directs the creative product at the agency and strives for excellence in everything from concept to completion of every project on schedule.

Works closely with Account Services to solve marketing problems through smart, well-designed advertising and collateral materials that help sell product, and maintain good image for clients and agency.

Manages the Creative/Production Department (ADs, Copywriters, Production Artists, etc.).

Attends creative input meetings (along with the AD/CW team) to develop creative strategies and implements all creative requirements including copy, layout, illustrations, final art and photography.

Confirms client review and delivery schedules with AE and assigns jobs to creative team.

Oversees creative solutions and presents those to AE for internal approval at a date determined in the initial creative input meeting.

Directs comp work to assure on schedule delivery for client review.

Is called on request of AE, or by his/her own request, to “sell” creative at client presentations.

In concert with Production Manager, selects vendors for jobs and is involved along with the creative team in signing off final art, color proofs, bluelines and press proofs.

Supervises full time Senior Art Directors, Designers, and interns.

Has oversight on selection and management of all freelance services.

Is responsible for interviewing and screening applicants for creative positions.

Represents the agency at creative/professional/civic functions.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Strong customer service, self-motivation and time management skills required.
2. Must be an effective project leader, a clear communicator and consensus builder, highly organized, very detail-oriented and able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
3. Must have strong management skills and be able to work with a talented staff and motivate them to challenge their own limits and skills.
4. Must be comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
5. High proficiency in Adobe CS 5 (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign). Familiarity with WordPress and Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint is a plus.

Other Qualifications and Competencies:

1. Ability to direct and multitask effectively under pressure.
2. Follow up and tenacity with results/deadlines.
3. Experience developing collateral while following corporate guidelines.
4. Print/graphic design, copywriting and web aesthetics experience.
5. Corporate presentation and trade show design experience.
6. Ability to conceptualize and to direct concepts through design and execution.
7. Strong presentation and client management skills.
8. A good knowledge of aesthetics and sales (will push the envelope creatively but knows what will sell and meet the needs of the client’s campaign objectives).
9. Strong leadership–able to lead teams in brainstorming and concept development.
